Mr Hyde's beginning
Wednesday, 9 March 2011
I have and start with good intentions but then motivation slowly slides away and its hard to catch it again. I love deviantart, because its there I tend to be able to catch my motivation and find my inspiration.
So lets begin, i've put an image up recently of my current project, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
I've read the book repeatedly and I spent forever drawing out the story line and and ideas for its characters, but it was to no avail. It wasnt till one day while i was walking to work that i saw a brightly coloured piece of street art, on the side of a shop. It hit me then, rather than copying the story line, copying the ideas using the characters, I decided to do my own take. My story is inspired by Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde not copying it.
I will be adding my drawings as I now have a sketch book nearly full dedicated to this project. I want to keep the motivation going, I want to be able to finish my final piece. Work in 3ds max and make my 1st successful 3min film.
Wish me luck
Lets begin...I've sketched out and transferred into photoshop the 1st murial of Dr jekylls life, his childhood.
Breakdown:
Watched since birth, yet born into a wealthy industrial family. Hands signify forever being trapped, someone/thing lurking in the background.
Brainwashed by tv to conform.
Evil always lurking as he grows with age.

Carry on Sceaming

Using the ideas and layout of the laboratory from the Carry on film, "Carry on Screaming". I am able to create the same creepy classic room which will fit my Dr Jekyll.
Stone cracked walls, huge bulbs dangling from the ceiling.

The equipment is all steel and metal, giving it a clinical feel, yet at the same time everything doesnt seem clean. Dust and rot.

Huge Dials and electrical equipment hooked to the walls. Meter and power readings, fuel guages and huge fuse boxes. Basement feel.
Books and cabinets in the backgroung suggest educated and studious, like Dr Jekyll is to be portrayed. The Large thick oak desk which is behind the Beast in the picture above will also have an influence.Although in the film Carry on Screaming, there is not enough work desk which have vials and potions and notebooks to be spread about upon.

1st part of the story line

1. Outside, thunderstorm, looking into a barred window.2. Getting closer and closer to window, seeing the a scientist by candle light
3. Camera Pans down onto him writing in a notebook
4. Close up of notebook, and its sketches of a beastly creature
5. Dr jekyll looks up into a mirror, (he's haggard, ill looking)
6. Bows head into his hands, and then finishes writing
7. The candle on the desk is blown out, leaving the room in a cold bluey darkness.
Tones: Mostly using a blue tone, cool/cold. While candle is lit it gives off a eerie orangey colour (green)
Dr Jekyll
Dr Jekyll this is an initial idea of my version of him. In the animation he will be a lot darker, I'll also keep with the 1st sketch of him with a a slight hunch.

Character Traits
Scientist (clearly)
Civilized (Hair trimmed and cut)
Sensible (Gloves + Boots)
Older Gentleman (grey)
Tall (Representative of him in society)
Slim (well kept, busy with work)
Crooked Nose (Roman nose - Stature)
Beard (Sign of wisedom, wizards)
I kept the character's outfit and features open to any era, from victorian to futuristic.

Basic Story Line
This is the basic story line of the story and its events.
Drunken Robot
1. Human-ish looking robot at a bar.
2. Drunk as hell (head hanging down). Empty glass in front of him.
3. Stands up and staggers out of Bar (Re-FUEL)
4. He has no control over his limbs and links
5. They lengthen and shorten as he tries to walk.
6. Trying to gain composure he leans against a lamp post
7. His arm suddenly shoots up and twists around it.
8. Looks up at twisted hand, before suddenly shortening the shoulder to elbow link.
9. This sends his body to follow, now twisted around the lamp post.
10. Confused, he untwists himself
11. sending him into a twirl
12. facing back towards the bar
13. walks forward and back to where he started.
Simple!
Here is the robot from I robot, its a good little reference to its human element. Althought mine looks more like a cartoony robot. Will upload soon as I'm happy with a final drawn versio.

1st Robot Mix Match

Here is an environment scene, so you can get the jist of the area and mood of my animation. Its got drawn bits pieces from pictures and films (Batman of course) anyway I cant decide wether i want it colourful like a feel of las vegas or more dark and corrupt like a inner city. Once i've played around some more will tell you my verdict. I'm going for a sincity theme, with sound effects of a corrupt city, like the classic New York City sound. Sirens, gun shots, shouting.
Orrery

I'm in the middle of rendering it but here is a few screen shots of the final thing. very colourful! I'll be honest i'm quite proud of it, have it all moving fine in the 10second animation, all the little moons and everything. Never realised how good the array and link tool is. Makes life so much easier anyway once rendered and figured out how to successfully save, will upload.

My Robot and his City
Ref: http://relzlife.blogspot.com/2009/11/gotham-city_23.html
and http://www.kheendesign.com/blog/15/
two images that are probably going to be the main influence over my urban landscape. I'm using Gotham city as it fits the theme of drunks and delinquents. Gotham is a metropolis full of crime, robberies, murder and corruption. Also had a little look at Sin City too, this image just fits the dark mood of it all.
Ref: http://www.templates.com/blog/amazing-movie-paintings-from-five-professional-artists/
Its chaos will reflect upon the robot, it aslo helps ease a back story onto the robot too. In a city like that its easy to be drunk. My next post i will go into describing the robot and its no control over its elongating and shrinking body parts.
Here are Bits of inspiration to my Robot ideas:

ike Charlie Chaplin The Drunken Tramp

All good bits of inspiration come from a tiny spark, like seeing a stranger walk head first into a lamp post!

1st Million
Finally i have just about compeleted my first piece of materialised object!! My surgery with Andy today really helped, its all clicked into place. There is no better way of teaching then by someone that really is able to engage your attention, (as i admit i struggle with focus). But Andy's way of teaching really appeals, another bit to add why i want to learn 3d. Anyway here is my 1st £10,000 wad of cash! if only it was real, anyway i'm still putting on the label as we speak but i was just so excited i thought i would put it up now! still more to be done to make it more realistic like flaring it out a litlle and needs a hell of a lot more to make the millions!
i would share so here it is!!

So here are some posters I did last night for a type of Jackass show thats going to happen end of this month. Went for 3 different designs. I think i did pretty well, made them all in about 3/4hrs thats from getting the, getting all the info I could about it (was like trying to get water out of a stone) and sending them off. Ultimately they have gone for all of them, as he knew he could use each of them in different areas (Glad I did so well he couldnt really choose). Each poster is done on photoshop, with one image and bold text. The use of red is used throughout as I think the colour signies the pain in the show.
So here is number one:
So here is number one:
The design:
This one is the favourite out of the four, "Its more us" quoted! I love the screaming mouth it fits for both the bands and the show its self, even its not screaming its open wide like in shock (yet again fits the style of the show) This was my 1st idea, with me i forget to research and jump straight in to the 1st design and figure out the issues afterwards. I one of them work on spur of the moment! Yet I still like this one and it is the favourite and the logo for the show I've been told, or something like that not quite sure. Theres the red again too just to show the blood and pain!
